All this talk is not doing anything for anyone....... I'm a farung(Kiwi), I live in Thailand, I know Thailand, Thai culture, Thai people, very well. I speak Thai, most of my friends are Thai, my girlfriend is Thai and I love my situation. Sure, Thai women are stereotyped, but all this hype is just hurting that even more. If the press(SIAMWEB included) choose to continually talk about Thai women in this light, then people will believe that it is true of all Thai women, which we know is rubbish.

Please listen to me, Thai women are amazing human-beings. Give them a break by getting rid of all this negativity! Thai women don't need it, Thailand does'nt need it, and neither do me or my family and friends. I honestly thought everyone had got over that stereotype of yesteryear, but now reading your website....has bought it all back again. Wake up, grow up, and smell the flowers! IF YOU DONT STOP PEOPLE WILL THINK THAI WOMEN REALLY ARE THIS WAY--WHICH IS WRONG!!

Krisada from proxy.wantree.com.au on Friday, August 15, 1997 at 11:35:52
From Siamweb.org to Krisada: Thank you for your input. I totally agree. This Thai women cool homepages topic has taken an unexpected turn. The more we talk about "Thai women isn't this. Thai women is like that", the more we contribute to both negative/positive stereoptyping. As a Thai women, I spend most of my waking hours convincing myself that I am who I am regardless of what others expect of me. Personally, I want to see more websites for Thai women that promote awareness in domestic violence, reproductive rights, equal work opportunity ... (long long list) etc. However, this page was started by Siamweblers request. So to be fair, Siamweb.org will gladly consider your proposed shutdown of this page if there is more support from other readers. Thanks. - Yujira

Because of the foods, I once dream of a Thai wife...It's a fact ! For sure, as it's been said before; Thai women or Italian or american or wathever are just human being like any individual. Funny that we are still stocked with such presumtions near year 2000. If one concept is true or else very close to the truth is that their "petitess" is absolutely lovely. I never knew that you were going through such an ordeal because of such disgusting Yakety-yak. I'm a late Babyboomer who studied for more than a while, I had personnal convictions. As evolution is following it's path, race are necessarely & obviously mixing as a matter of fact.

Late or soon, pure race as define by dreamers will desappear ! The real problem down in this world is that there's always quite a few extremist who use the race PRETEXT to get what there looking for.

Reading all the comments that are registrated in your collumn is a shock for me. If I take a straight forward action to find the thai women of my dream (Which is 1 personnality beside 4 billion human beings...Hum?); I feel like being silly. That whole ordeal that you seem to live is kind of a barrier to be confortable to establish normal human contacts like I was once dreaming about. That is the final effect of the actions that some perverted individual go through in order to install a mess and take control of the situation. My gosh, many couples all over the world are mixed races and love is stronger than anything. On another level, it is a well known fact in science that this make the most promising childrens. Barf ! Prostitution is everywhere down in this world. Dont think that you are the worst case. It doesn't make anykind of sense that a women does that for the only purpose of pleasure. That is a lie for sure. Even for a man (That I am) I am now aware that in order to have a full amourous satisfaction, it is important to have a regular partner. Maybe, after all I am unable to figure out the power that the leaders of prostitution have over there. Getting told about it is one thing but living through it is something else. Anyway; let me tell you, that after reading the comments it is obvious that it's scary. Such a nice country, such nice peoples taxed for a minority of wrongdoers. Just can irradicate such an aberration. Some guys did dream about Marylin Monroe and married a look-alike, in my case Marylin would have eat her heart out in the choice of a thai treasure let me tell you. But I dont feel good anymore about my past hopes. Thank to get me aware about the case ! PT. From Canada.

Stereotyping is unfortunate BUT let's have some balance too. The behaviour of many some Thais abroad contributes to the stereotype just as there is a perception of the 'ugly' Australian tourist or the arrogant French or the rude American etc etc. These people do exist and help to create stereotypes. You will come across some Thai women whose behaviour leaves a lot to be desired, but the same can be said for every country. Please treat each person as you find them, regardless of any preconceived ideas you may have about them.

I saw your article in the Bangkok Post, when I was in Thailand recently and found it very interesting and informative, unfortunately people have the wrong impression of Thai women, I think this web site should be start of righting some of the wrongs and changing peoples attitudes and opinions of Thai women in general. Keep up the good work.

I wanted to say that this is a great website so other "surfers on the net" will see. This is not a place to socialize or to meet dates. And one posting is asking for someone out. What? This is a site that the Thai women can express their viewpoint which is she is assertive and independent. She is not a prostitute and those who keep asking for a date on this site (please go to the people corner or the social corner) I am a Thai woman who is proud of my heritage and hate the image that is shown to everyone that we (Thai Women) are easy, sleazy, a prostitute, will bow down to every mans needs . We are not that stereotypical image. So stop thinking that when we are on the channel and we tell you that we are a Thai woman that we will be interested in you bu ways of a relationship

I've recently got an information about a "Siamladies" website [http://www.siamladies.com] and I've already visited this web site. Shockingly, the site seems to be a globalised flesh market where Thai women are somekind of product a man can buy. Many photoes of some Thai women, with a small detail are shown. At the end, it informs that whoever interested in any of those girls must pay 50 US$ to get the address of the girl. This is all I know about this web site. But I think it makes me realise that at present, we, all Thai women have to work harderr to fight against these modern form of sex market. I guess there are many web sites like this occuring on the net. How terrible it is to think that there are also other web sites promoting and selling Thai children on the net! It is very interesting and will be very useful to solve the prostitution problem in Thailand if we can find out how these international sex trades work and how they extend therir webs. We need everybody's cooperation!

In Norway many people think that Thailand is just a big sexmachine. Thats because the media here only focus on the sex industri. I think its bloody unfair because I know Thailand as one of the most beauthifull and friendly countries in the world. So to give Thailand a better reputation I hope the goverment can clean up the sexindustri and all the corruption in Thailand. ....And Thai girls are the nicest girl in the world.

Well as i am a thai myself i think it's a good idea what you guys r trying to do and i totally agree that most thai girls are not prostitutes yet those who are, they never wanted to be but they r forced to this clearly reflects what kind of a country we are living in where power and money rule us here so dear friends from every corner on this earth don't blame us we wish our country is as nice as yours not having this kind of problem, so instead of humiliating us or accuse us of prostitution please ponder and be pathetic if u like just tell us how to get ourselves out of this hell we are living in or just some ideas of what to do not just showing your lust around.

Some are controlled by foreigners(Swiss mafia in Phuket..etc)
Some are children.
Some are sucked by pimps,police,etc..
Some got HIV.

Interesting idea. We live in a time where our perceptions of each other are governed by the "sound bite". Thus, we tend to generalize people as economically as possible. But as the Internet becomes the dominant form of media that will change, and the public at large will become better enlightened about the world. The stereotypes will break down eventually. I think Thailand will still be a popular destination for sextourists (but not unlike some other countries, like Holland, Brazil, Costa Rica, Cambodia, etc.), but at the very least these pages will help to educate and balance the public perception of Thai women.

Hope to see more pages soon.

As with nost things in the world, it is a matter of economics. If Thailand becomes develoed and Thai women have more avenues for economic advancement, Thai prostitutes will become too expensive for westerners. Thai women need not look to westerners for a better quality of life. Then the image of Thai women will no longer be what it is today. So all Thais should work to better their country economically and to see that the new elath is equitably spread among the Thai people.

I applaud your efforts. I have spent quite a bit of time in Thailand and come from the SF area in California. The stereo typing of all Thai women are prostitutes is very offensive. There are probably as many prostitutes in the SF Bay Area as there are in Bangkok, but as a rule you never hear of it. I hope that you sites will help educate people from other countries as to the truth of the situation. Note I don't just specify Farangs as I know quite a few people from Japan and Singapore and they have the typical all Thai women are prostitutes too..

Most of the time when I talked about Thailand with foreigner( India,Arab, American). Prostitute becomes first or second thing they are talkig about. So I just replied quietly that not many women are prostitute and tried to changed topics. We (especially Thai goverment and police department) have to admit that there are prostitutes in Thailand. From there we have two choices. One solve the problem, another let's go the problem. The main point I want to make is the goverment neither accept or try to solve the problem. I remembered one goverment even try to promote tourism and ignoring the accusation of prostitute in Thailnad.Thai goverment even tried to correct the definition of bangkok. We still denied the problem. In stead of correct the dictionary, why can't we correct our law to make situation better. I can see the light of this solution, if thais accept the problem and willing to solve the problem.

I have been staying in Australia for a period of time and have found out that many western men still stereotype Thai women as submissive and willing to obey men. Sadly, I have seen an Australian film, "The Good Woman of Bangkok" which portrays about Thai prostitutes, the sex tourists interviewed in the film viewed their sexual exploitation as an act of charity! I'm glad that we have this web site. There is always an imbalance of expressing opinions between "The First World" and "The Third World" and between men and women. I think this web site is a great chance to anyone who believes in human right.

They are all of the following: Charming, Dull, stuborn, stupid, bright, lovely , a pain in the "you know what",great partners, bad housekeepers, good cooks. in short , They are women. I donot know how a was able to survive the last 25 years. I also agree on the fact that people are too easy with stereotypes. I am from Holland, and the rest of the world seems to think Holland is the land of free drugs and cheap sex. The fact is that all these things are just as illegal here as in other countries. It is just an image created by the TV. Thailand has 70 million people, roughly half female? The percentage of prostitution is about similar to that of most western countries. However American and European newscrews prefer to send out someone elses problems, especially in a faraway "tropical" land then in their own backyard. good luck with your site, keep up the good work. Some of the comments that I have read above are disgusting and in this day and age no one should be subjected to this type of harassment. In order to stamp it out one must take very positive action. I could go on and on about Thai women and the misconception about them. I have traveled to some forty countries and islands and have been throughout Asia and I have fallen in love with Thailand its people and culture..I can only say what I feel and that is my heart bleeds and I feel the tears of compassion in my eyes whenever I hear or witness a Thai woman being wronged. Anyone who has an education could take the time time understand the country and its people visit the villages sleep in the rain eat the food talk the language and work with the women and children in the provinces would uncover a very precious gift and find that Thai women and most all the Thai are a very giving ang caring people who only want but to succed and better their lives...and so if the struggle for survival places them in harms way to the likes of prostitution then this is for survival and to succeed where there seems to be no other escape. Those who cast judgement upon the Thai will then be judged themselves as uneducated to the ways of society in a culture unlike their own. For me and for my life I will always protect the Thai and strive to better their lives and give them hope in an otherwise dark future for many. It will be Thailand that I lay me down to sleep in hope that all my deeds have reached enlightenment. The western view of Thai women will not change through the ages of time easily so it is then that the Thai women must be educated in how to protect themselves from the biases of mankind and not be disheartened by the harsh and often painful things that are said and read over the internet. You have to believe.....believe that there is good in all things..don't give up. ...not all views of Thai women are negative...I'm one who will help if I can...just ask anyone...**
