| ... Egat is also being affected significantly by the baht float. Based on a Bt30 to the dollar level, Egat's foreign debt would increase by Bt13.9 billion from Bt145 billion while its return on investment would drop to only 5 per cent from 8 per cent a year.... Dear all,
Is EGAT privatisation going to happen soon? Early retirement will help reduce the size of the organization and pave the way for privatisation but can we wait that long? How will they deal with the ever threatening union workers? Would any EGATs out there like to respond? Comments and suggestions |

Well, I worked for the bangkok branch of a huge american IT
consulting firm (I don't know if it's the same one mentioned here)
It's true that the charging rate is about 1,000-10,000up baht/hour
for new graduate Thai to experience foreign staff. Normally this
company charges the customer about 8-15 times of the real wage of
the staff. Say, a 50,000 baht/month (or 50000/22/8 = 285 baht/hour)
staff will have standard charing rate to customer about 2,000 to
4,000 baht/HOUR depenging on his/her individual experience and
responsibility in the project.
Well, the company surely has other expenses as well e.g. internal corporate expenses, training, worldwide best practices databases and so on. The commission may also have to be counted especially here in Thailand. However, the company normally get a lots of profits from each project. *For example*, a recent 70 million baht project with an electrical state enterprise has an estimated cost of only 18 million baht! I'm not making up the numbers. That's one of several reasons why I resigned from that firm which just moved its office to Silom area. Anyone in that consulting firm would like to defend for your company? Well EGAT and other state enterprises, I'd love to see you change the style. Instead of hiring those expensive consulting firm. Please seriously find good Thai staff and best pay and provide best working environments for them directly. So that money won't run out of country! We know that Thai people have majical capabilities, but bad working environment, corruptions and not believe in our(Thai)selves prevent Thai people to depend on our owns. Bangkok. 20/8/97 |

| Someone may not know that EGAT helps to solve the traffic jam on Charunsanitwong abd Wongsawang Roads by setting two periods of office hours:07.30 AM.-03.30 PM. And 08.30-4.30PM.............. |

| I don't know about those projects
or that consulting firm, but I once
went into EGAT around before 4pm of a normal working day. What I
saw is so many EGAT staff are hurry of going back home, the traffic
inside is jammed. I was told that working hour of EGAT is until 4:30pm
but many people go home as early as before 4pm. Oh..... I once thought
that EGAT has a lot of engineers and is known to be a profitable state
enterprise (opposite to Bangkok Bus). So it should be different to other
government organizations or state enterprises. Since that day, I realized
that all gov. org. or state entpz. are same!
