Hi guys, what ya see in my hands isn't some sort of sexual simulation devices but a bi product of durian!. Yup, this thing doesn't only fit in your hand nicely, it comes in different sizes, and *ahem* ..it tastes great as well ;)

Now, lemme tell ya more about this apatite pleasing event call "Jantaburi Fruit Festival". One thing for sure.. I had a blast. ieie...
Let me introduce you to the member of the cast.
Welcome to Jantaburi Fruit Festival.
Honestly, I don't know much about fruits here in Thailand except "Durian". Actually it is pronounce "tu-rien".I wonder how the "t" gets replaced by a "d". Mon-thong is my most favorite one. Cha-nee? hmm..taste better with the sticky rice. =)~~ oopss..sowiee. Can't help it. haha =D
Man.. I've never seen so many variety of fruits displayed in massive number such as here: Janburi Fruit Festival. Its not only eye feast, its finger lickin, tummy filling, experience as well.

Some of the fruits here, i see and taste for the first time. I do manage to get most of the name down though. Since I have limited knowledge about the science of growing fruit, so I won't talk about it. I'll just be blabbing about what they have and how good it taste!

"Mangosteen!" what a cool name. hehe.. In Thai, they call this "mang-koot".

Hmm..how come it doesn't smell?? I wonder. P'Nueng who was standing next to me laughed really hard. He handed me a piece to try. Wow!! aroi kwah' nai ga ponk+ sa eek. That's what sux about States, you get these fruits in a can.

A smile can work wonders when you bargain. Well, in my case, I was lucky.. the merchant was a man *grin* Normally mankoot cost 40bt/kilo (98 bt/kg in bkk), I got it four kilos for 100 baht so there! ;P *ngaee*

I'm in fruity heaven! You know what, I could live here for a month piggin out on fruits. See that smile? that's out of pure joy!

Like i said before, I don't know half of these fruits before I get here, but they all look so interesting..so I had to try them all.

The land in Jantaburi
is so fertile that all these fruits are being produced in massive quantity. I know where I'm gonna build my retirement home now.

Hope I'm not making too obvious of how much I enjoy myself here?
Ladies and Gentlemen... its Durian Time!
Durian Mon-thong is da best guys !! I don't know anyone who hates Durian. Yes it does have a strong smell, and won't be suitable on your first date but heck, I'll dump my date over a good durian!
So what happens if there's too much Durian supply you ask? Wouldn't the fruit rot, you wonder? Yes they do rot, so they preserved it by turning it to Durian-guan or make them into Fried Durian.

Durian-guan is when you take a bunch of durian meat in a big fat pan, dump a whole lot of sugar, heat it up till it boils and stir till it turns real thick. Does it taste good? Oviously!

Fried Durian is crispy and shaped like fried potato chips. They slice raw durian into thin pieces, then either fry or both roast and fry them.. add salt.. package it .. lasts a long time. How does it taste? Well, let's just say you can't have just one piece.

Outside that tough, hard, spiky shell is a warm sweet irresistably juicy creamy heart. I wish more men are like this ;)

For those who like to eat Durian-guan, you'll be surprised when you see the price. In bangkok, there's no way you can get 35 baht per kg.
I kept walking back and forth, bit my finger nails, and looked at the durian-guan in the bucket. =]~ Ok..ok 1 kg of durian-guan won't do any big harm, right? eeek..I hope. hehe =P

"Sis, gimme 4 kgs of durian-guan!" I said.
In the olden days, the Burmese often invaded Thailand and Jantaburi is a formidable fortress for the Thai army and was never taken over. One of the key strategic warfare arsenals was the Durian. The durian was placed in a basket in mass quantity. When the enemy approached, the basket was catapulted over. It was raining Durian for the invaders! Just imagine: the bombardment of a hard spiked projectile followed by chemical warfare of the rotten Durian after it cracks opened. The horror of durian battle memories striked fear in the heart of the enemies for years to come. This amazing fruit has played a major role in protecting Thai independency.

Thanks for the info on the Fruit Festival. Is the
Mangosteen a 'hard' covered, dark purple outside with
royal purple inside, and absolutely white meat? If
so, that is what I've been trying to find out for
many years. The BEST fruit in the world. You can
definitely keep the other one! It smells and tastes
like lighter fluid! NO THANKS! The BEST & the worst
at one festival, oh yeah. Thailand is the best!

On my visit last year to Thailand I too did not have the guts to try the Durian. I wanted to be the best falang possible, but the cultural shock was a big time for me. Also the great dancing and Thai rock music, with those late nights in the discos...wow. I wish you all the best of happyness.

Very good information page.
I am also a durian lover.. I went to the fruit festival once, even though a lot of friends told me that the fruits there is normally expensive than you can get in the local markets, but I didn't care and went there, pretty nice arrangement and the parking space was great!.. hundreds and hundreds or shops offering fruits and "related" items. It's good for your tummy as well. If you haven't tried! you'd better .. I read an article in Readers Digest about a farang who tried and loved durian ever after.

I would like to set the story straight. I spent over 5 1/2 years
in Thailand. Was married there also.
The describtion I have heard of druian was in the Bangkok post in
1967. It was described as something
that smelled like someones sewer was
broken and running down the street.
Although they say it really does taste very good.I could not get the smell past my nose to try it.
