The Columbus Connection

I must be out of my mind working on this homepage and I owe it all to Putt, the originator of the SiamWeb. His intellgence and lack of commitment have inspired the html-spirit in all of us.

Quite a bit has changed since the first version of this homepage was released in April. The baseball strike is over. Putt has graduated. The Thai student association of OSU has a new president. Nonetheless a lot of things remain the same. The Leonard exit on 670 is still closed. Columbus still doesn't have a professional football team.

Certain individuals ask me what they should see if they want to visit Columbus. Perhaps, a psychiatrist. But if you still hear an inner voice telling you to visit the city, then the first place you should see is the Santa Maria. It's a sailboat. It's in the Scioto River or maybe Olentangy river. It has something to do with Christopher Columbus, the dude responsible for the westernization of America.

German Village is also another place to skip when coming to Columbus unless you really have the hearts for beer, sausage and bricked driveways. Other places to ignore are the Art museum and the Columbus Zoo. Also when you're in downtown avoid looking directly at the Columbus Convention center designed by Peter Isermann. Its abstracted structure may boggle your mind. German Village History
Germans immigrating to America in the mid-1800s formed a prosperous settlement in the south end of Columbus, but by the 1950s the area was in severe decline. The German Village Society, founded in 1960, has worked to restore houses and businesses; the village earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. - source

Short North is the area between downtown and the Ohio State University. There's nothing to see there except for countless bars and coffee shops. There's a Japanese restaurant, creatively named "Japanese Restaurant". The food is similar to Fujiyama. The difference is that the cook is a Cambodian.

For the Thai food addicts, Hunan express on King Ave may satisfy you. The restaurant is operated by P' Nong. Her specialty is Gang Goong Sapparos. Still not content? Try the Bangkok roast duck at Thai Taste or the Chiang mai chicken at Thai palace. Better yet go to Bangkok grocery on Refugee road. Get a Yenta four and rent a Thai soap opera. Then you are set for the whole day. Forget the so-called sightseeing. BTW, I recommend the TV serie, Kue had tha krong pi pop, starring Jarunee Suksawat. C'mon stop whining. Would you rather watch the local news?

At night, you'll find that Singha beer goes best with Som Tamat the Thai Orchid on Sawmill road or Siam on Bethel Road. Not in the mood for Thai food? That's your problem. Try the coffee at Stauf. It's right next to the Califormia style pizza place, Spagio, on Grandview.

OK. Now get your bowling shoes and bowling balls ready. We're going bowling at Sawmill Lanes. It's a rock-and-bowl special from 11 pm to 2 am on Friday and Saturday night. Don't forget your cough drops cuz the music is so loud, you can barely whisper without screaming.
