As
you probably noticed, Siamweb.org went through site wide renovation, which
is about time. Siamweb.org was running on programs written since 1996-97
and not much of database nor real time stuff.
 The
reason we didn't upgrade siamweb earlier was that everyone in the team
was busy working. Well, they pay us $$ to do that but in siamweb we do
it for fun. I guess we've got to feed ourselves. Why didn't we make it
commercial like the rest of the pop website? We don't like commercial
influence us how to express our idea. We also don't want to be in pressure
of producing content, we want to do this when we like. Besides I personally
don't think of myself doing this all the time. I like variation. Its more
interesting to work on different design tasks. Lastly, siamweb effort
consisted of people all around the net built over time, we didn't know
how to reward all the guys who jamed with us, should we turn commercial.
Anyway, siamweb.org will remain non profit organization for as long as
there's the web (or the server!) Its like a time capsule for our effort..
We can look back years from now and see our stuff here.
I've been busy producing websites for many company/corporations so I didn't
have much time to do anything else.  The
only way to do this is to develop siamweb.org in parallel with another
web project that had similar features. I have to thank Sine
first and foremost for her effort, working with me on various projects
and on siamweb.org as well. She spent a huge amount of programming time.
Many days/ nights passed and here we have it. Sorry Sine for being too
demanding.. But u know me?! :] From now on, I'll try to put aside projects
to free up time to work on siamweb.org
The
other factor that rushes the remake of siamweb.org is the careless technician
at a computer store I bought the new server from. The dude deleted all
our drives in the process. The store owner just say "I'm sorry"
If I could only run through him the data that was lost, 6 years of consciousness
collection, the guy should be on his knee. Well, in Thailand, u can't
sue for this sort of thing. Anyway, luckily we have backup of 1999, that's
why you see all our user post ends at the year 1999 or somewhere there.
FYI the store I got the server from is Active Zone at the Fortune Tower.
They only know your name before you buy their stuff.
The
new siamweb.org is now running on the cool combo: FreeBSD
OS, mySQL for DB, php
for scripting, apache webserver. Doesn't open source just rule? That synchronize
with our theme, best things in life are free!..  Thank
to Anto, the wacky gury from Internet Thailand for helping us doing the
set up and administration. We also have to thank Internet
Thailand for their continual sponsoreship of internet bandwidth.
The
new engine should let member be more active as a publisher and as a commmunity.
We'll be getting bunch of new content pretty soon from dimple queen: PoP,
Yujira,
and many other new publishers. It is also easier to administrate.. We've
had too many junk posts and commercial post in our article forums. With
this new engine, we can zaped junkies away easily. I hope you enjoy the
new stuff. Should you experience some problem or bug, please let me or
sine knows. We'll try to fix it.
